AR Pamphlet Creation

Project: Create an informational AR pamphlet on a subject of your choice.

For this project, I decided to focus on the Lewis Chessmen. They are the oldest medieval chess set in existence. This project was a lot of fun and using AR took a little bit to get used to.

1. Define AR Experiences

My first step was to decide what experiences I wanted to use. The software we used (Zapworks) allowed the use of 3D models so I definitely wanted to try that out. The rest of the experiences were pretty simple. Zapworks allows you to play video, pull up an image, make a slide show, and integrate weblinks into your interactions.

2. Designing the Brochure

This was extremely enjoyable. I wanted to exude a vintage risograph style pamphlet. I was able to find images and written content I could use for my brochure. I kept the fonts and colors consistent throughout.

3. Creating the AR Experience

Earlier I stated that I wanted to use 3D models and so I tried using the more advanced version of Zapworks but I found that the models were being loaded incorrectly and they looked distorted and broken. I tried to troubleshoot this issue to no avail. I used the simple AR widgets after that to just add images of the pieces instead.

Conclusion

AR experiences are exciting and new. It will be interesting to see how they become more commonplace in the future. Having dipped my toe in AR I would be interested to experiment with face filter AR.
